The Long Range Hotel is ideally placed for a walking holiday, whether you are looking for some serious hiking in Dartmoor, or just the odd stroll along the coast.

Dartmoor itself is under an hour away by car, and offers opportunities for all kinds of day trips. Car parks tend to sit close to some of the most popular Tors, so if you are unable to go far, or want to take it easy, a two minute stroll from the car will take you to some stunning rock formations and an invigorating breeze. Some, such as Sharpe Tor, tend to be quieter than others where you can sometimes find food-vans, and groups cyclists gathering for a break between legs of their trip.

You are free to roam Dartmoor and explore the area, and can find information on how to ensure you preserve the area and stay safe on these pages: http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/index/visiting/vi-planningyourvisit.htm

There are also regular guided walks and events on Dartmoor too, and you can find information on this page: http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/index/visiting/vi-eventsguidedwalks.htm

As well as exploring by foot, you can cycle the various routes through Dartmoor, or enjoy some horse-riding through the area. Many stables offer short two-hour treks, or full day trips with meals at a Dartmoor Inn for lunch.

If you prefer to walk alongside the sea and enjoy some of the beautiful beaches in the area, there are many coastal walks connecting town to town. You can take the path at whatever pace you choose, and there are sure to be tea-rooms along the way to provide much-needed energy boosts! If you just want to get up and go, you can start walking the coastal path in either direction directly from Budleigh Salterton beach, although if you're going east then you have to walk inland of the beach briefly to get past the river and on to the cliffs.

If you're interested in set walks, and finding out how long you will walk for on a particular stretch, you can find information on the Official Guide website for the South West Coast Path: http://www.southwestcoastpath.com.
Along with walks in the area, there is also the attraction of fossils along the Jurassic Coastline. You can find more information on how to enjoy this aspect of the area on this website: http://www.jurassiccoastline.com.
